Lift Chair Shopping Guide

If getting up and down is a challenge, a lift chair can help you regain mobility and independence. These chairs are an investment, so make sure to choose one carefully.

Space Considerations

Space is the first thing to consider when shopping around for a lift chair. The chair itself must fit into the room in which you will be placing it. These chairs come in a variety of dimensions, so you should be able to find one that fits the space well. It makes sense to measure your space before you shop. You can then use these measurements to determine which chairs are suitable.

Of course, the dimensions of the chair in sitting mode are just one space consideration. You must also assess how the chair transforms. If you opt for a recliner, for example, then make sure that the space is sufficient for the chair when it is in full recliner mode. It's also important to verify that the chair will have enough room to go through its entire lift motion without bumping walls or other pieces of furniture.

Fabric Options

Lift chairs come in all the same upholstery options as any other piece of fine furniture. If stains are a concern, or if the user of the chair has issues with incontinence, opt for an upholstery option that is easy to clean and doesn't absorb stains easily. Leather or one of the many quality faux leather options is ideal. If leather or similar seems as though it would be uncomfortable, perhaps due to a hot climate, a stain-treated fabric may be a suitable alternative.

If stains aren't an issue, then the sky is the limit. Microfiber upholstery is exceptionally comfortable and soft to the touch, for example. You can also go with a plush synthetic fabric. You can find cloth options in both natural and synthetic fabrics, as well as in a variety of colors and patterns, so finding something to fit your home's decor shouldn't be a problem.

Mechanisms and Features

Test the chair extensively before purchase. Not all lift mechanisms are created equally, so you want to make sure the chair lifts smoothly and to the necessary level for the user to get out easily. It's best if the intended user can test the chair before purchase.

You should also look at some of the features available. There are lift chairs with built-in speakers, which are handy for users with hearing challenges. You can also get chairs that operate with a push-button, as well as those that operate with a remote. Other features may include heated seats or massaging backs.

Contact a lift chair dealer to learn more about the options available.

Making Medical Equipment Even Better After living with a chronic medical condition for a few years, I realized that I had to do something differently. I talked with my doctor about the issues I was facing, and he prescribed some medical equipment that would help me to get around a little easier at home. Although I wasn't sure how things would work, I knew I was in the best care, and so I headed home and waited for the supplies to arrive. After a few hours, I was all set up at home with supplies that dramatically improved my mobility. I wanted to start a little website about medical equipment, so read more here.
